Great Big World(Cowan & Shad)

This time the postcard came from Paris
Notre Dame in the fading of the day
She dreamed that we would stroll together
Across the city down the Champs Élysées
I looked it over for a minute
Tossed it on the kitchen table
Next to the card she sent from Venice
A gondolier beneath the Bridge of Sighs
A couple kissing and she looks a little like her
She might have mentioned going there sometime
I have seen more than most
Picture by picture, post by post
It's such a great big world
It's such a great big world
The first card came from here in this town
It said “I'm leaving, and you ought to come along”
A long list of excuses I presented
But overtime I found each one of them was wrong
Cards from Belfast and Cairo
All the places I might never know
Out in the great big world
No “how are you dear?”
No “wish you were here”
Just a canceled stamp and a handwritten address
From out in that great big world
I swept the cards off of the table
Into a suitcase that I packed last night
Her mother told me that she’s still staying in Paris
I took a chance and booked a morning flight
I should have gone in the beginning
I’m gonna join her if she’s willing
Out in the great big world
Je t’aime mon cheri
Here’s where I need to be
Beside you, wherever you go
Out in that great big world
